CONFERENCE THEME

Afrasian Connectivity in a Changing & Turbulent World

Against a backdrop of shifting geopolitics, climate pressure, and contested histories, the 2026 conference asks how Africa and Asia continue to connect — through people, ideas, institutions, and movements. We invite contributions that trace these entanglements across disciplines, regions, and generations, reading connectivity not only as opportunity but as a field of friction, negotiation, and repair.

POSSIBLE TOPICS

Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

Youth, Leadership & Social Movements

Youth activism, community resilience, and social justice efforts across continents.

Development, Justice & Sustainability

The intersection of development with social justice, the SDGs, and equitable growth.

Trade & Infrastructure Partnerships

Trade, diplomacy, and development from Bandung to the Belt and Road Initiative.

Identity, Inequality & Reconciliation

Race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, nationalism, and efforts toward reconciliation.

Migration & Diaspora Connections

Mobility, diaspora networks, and transregional ties between Africa and Asia.

Climate & Environmental Cooperation

Cross-continental responses to climate change and environmental challenges.

Education & Decolonization

Educational development, decolonizing curricula, and historical legacies in learning.

Geopolitical & Economic Shifts

China, the U.S., Japan, and the evolving dynamics of Africa–Asia relations.

Food & Culture

Food industries, cultural entanglement and fusion, and immigrant livelihoods.

For other topics: Please state clearly in your application which category your paper fits in.
